Isle of Purbeck

Isle of Purbeck

I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube lately, especially the travel vloggers. Someone with a similar affinity to the Jungfrau region is Karl Watson and during 2021 he produced some vlogs about trips in the UK. One that caught my attention was his weekend around Corfe Castle which inspired me to visit when the opportunity arose.

I was itching to try out the new tent and a decent ish weather forecast coupled with a long weekend gave me the opportunity. I found a good site near Corfe Castle called Woodyhyde so off I went. The campsite was great, large, excellent facilities and with access to lots of footpaths. The Swanage steam railway also passes right in front of the site too.

I managed to get a couple of great walks in. The first was to Worth Matravers then on to the coast, returning via the quirky Square & Compass pub. For the second walk I took the steam train from Corfe Castle to Swanage then walked to Studland Bill and returned to Corfe Castle via an exposed path along the top of the Purbeck Ridge.

The tent was brilliant, it stood up to rain and high winds with no problem and the space it provided me was perfect. Being able to stand up is a real blessing and the porch was large enough to sit in with plenty of headroom. Taking it down in the wind gave me some challenges but it was actually pretty easy. A return trip to Woodyhyde is definitely on the cards.
